We are pleased to offer what must be one of the most original De Tomaso Mangusta’s in existence. Finished in Black with matching Black leather interior, this extremely early and very low mileage example still retains its original factory paint and has covered just 56,000km from new. Manufactured in late 1968, chassis 8MA 566 was numerically the 33rd of 401 Mangusta’s built and remains to almost the exact same specification as when it left De Tomaso’s factory in Modena.

At the time, the only other large displacement mid-engined motor cars available were Lamborghini’s P400 Miura and the street specification Ford GT40 MkI and MkIII placing the Mangusta in particularly rarefied company. Equipped with the 5-litre Ford 302 V8, left-hand drive, European guages and four headlight configuration, this car also came with the extremely rare option of folding bucket seats as opposed to the fixed-back items installed on the majority of Mangusta’s.

While we believe the paint to be totally original and there is no evidence of any corrosion, several of the body panels are affected with either a few chips or some mild microblistering most of which are practically unnoticeable from a couple of metres but immediately apparent upon closer inspection. We have tried to illustrate these in the photo gallery on our website so buyers can get a precise understanding of the cars exterior cosmetic condition but some are very difficult to pick up with the camera.

Mechanically and structurally the car is in lovely unrestored order and benefitted from an engine rebuild to standard specification within the last few hundred kilometres. The engine itself bears the original DT stamping used on early Mangusta’s whilst the interior is superb with almost perfect glass and the original Ferrero steering wheel present. The MOT expires in October 2014 and the car passed its most recent test with no advisories. Riding on the correct profile tyres in nearly new condition, the car drives very well indeed and would definitely suit those collectors who prize originality.
