This is a 1968 4-headlight Mangusta Model.

Color = Midnight Sky

You are looking at a beautiful, 1968 DeTomaso Mangusta, which belongs to a very good customer and friend. We have placed this vehicle on our site as a courtesy.

This original condition Mangusta was purchased by the current owner in 1980. He learned about this rare, low mileage automobile from a Wall Street Journal ad. It was advertised as a 94 mile car with Holman-Moody Blueprint engine. A copy of this ad is available (see picture).

A title search, shown here in reverse order, revealed:
Current owner purchased the Mangusta March, 1980 from C.O.M.B., Inc. of Minneapolis, Minnesota

C.O.M.B. bought the vehicle March 11, 1980 from Astro World Imports of Topeka Kansas

Astro World Imports bought it on December 1, 1978

A further title search determine that it was once purchased 12/15/1973 by Wichita Trailer Sales, Wichita Kansas.
Since the purchase by the current owner the Mangusta was transported by Ryder truck from Minneapolis to San Antonio, Texas. The car has been driven 30 additional miles by the current owner, from 94 to 124 miles as is the current odometer.

The vehicle has never been tagged in Texas, and never driven other than around the block for ‘exercise.’ Trips to and from storage and for service have been by truck, not driven. Although, the vehicle is drivable.

In an effort to maintain the integrity of this beautiful, rare Mangusta only minimal work has been done. The Mangusta remains as close to new as possible, so much so, that it has not even been detailed while in the current owners possession. It has, however, been continuously garaged and never driven in the rain. It has been started periodically and the service includes:

Installation of a Holley carburetor (the orginal is still available).
A New Fuel Filter
Numerous New Batteries
A new ignition coil, a few wires, and distributor points.

Considering this is a 1968 unrestored, original condition vehicle the body is in exceptional condition. A few small points of aluminum body corrosion under the paint have caused small bubbles and chips. A tab is broken on the rear “Mangusta” logo and the paint under the logo is chipped because the emblem is loose (Note: see picture). Since this is an aluminum body there will be no rust. The Power windows stick due to lack of use, but they do work. Because this was a show car and had untold amounts of people sitting in the driver’s seat, plus sheer age, the driver’s seat has come unstitched along the seam.

Potential buyers are encourage to have the vehicle inspected. It has had very little use, and correspondingly, very little work while in the current owners possession.
