Here’s your chance to own an unmolested US version DeTomaso Mangusta (chassis 8MA-726) at a great price and with the major work already completed.

I purchased the car in 2008 but have decided to sell it because I just purchased two other vintage cars and need the garage space. The prior owner indicates the engine and ZF gearbox had been previously rebuilt and the tidy engine compartment and many new items suggests this to be true. Car has an upgraded aluminum radiator for improved cooling. The power window switches and window regulator were just rebuilt with warranty.

Since purchasing the car, I’ve invested $11,000 USD to have the floors and inner rocker panels replaced where there had been the usual signs of past rust. This car does NOT have the usual frame support rust found in neglected Pantera and Mangusta cars. All welding was performed by a restoration expert along factory seams and even the correct lateral supports were created to exactly replicate the factory supports. Another $4,000 USD has been spent replacing the clutch slave, new battery, removing/draining the fuel tank, tuning the engine (carburetor, new plugs, etc.), rebuilding the air conditioning unit to R134 modern refrigerant standards and other maintenance items. The car retains its original glass, dash, and guages in good original (unrestored) condition. The seats and door panels have been recovered and a new leather headliner has been installed. New carpet and thermal insulation were installed at time of floor replacement (all floor seams were sealed with silicon and all metal surfaces primed and coated with undercoat sealer. The fuel tank was been removed and cleaned and a new battery installed.) Another $2,500 was spent in July 2009 for installation of a new suspension (shocks, springs, bushings).

Original jack and wheels are present and in good condition. I spent a couple thousand dollars on many NOS (new old stock) spares that I purchased from a DeTomaso supplier — including a new distributor, suspension parts, and more. All of these plus the receipts file come with the car. The paint is neat and presentable and looks great from 10′ away for a nice driver. The car has a current Texas state inspection and is ready to drive. Mangusta’s are really cool cars and under-valued, featuring the beauty of Italian design and the reliability of a Ford engine and ZF gearbox. There are few good surviving Mangusta’s left (it is estimated less than 200 of the original production run). International buyers, calculate your shipping costs from the port of Houston, Texas USA.
