This is a 1969 build date 4-headlight Mangusta model.

1969 DeTomaso Mangusta. Extremely limited production, two seat mid-engine GT sports coupe. I believe this was #169 of the 280 Mangustas imported into the U.S. thru final production in 1971. Original stock Ford 302 ci V8 engine with 5 speed transaxle. Body is clean, dry and straight! Both window motors recently rebuilt and updated brass window regulator gears installed. The engine starts right up and growls like vintage muscle cars should. I’ve had zero problems with the drivetrain, tranny shifts smooth and clutch feels good. If you are unfamiliar with this model, it preceded the better known Pantera by a few years. European models got the Ford 289 while U.S. models got the 302.

The interior is in good condition–but not quite on par with the body and exceptional paint. There are a few scratches on the dash and door panels. The original seats were swapped out by a prior owner for a pair of Corbeau racing seats ( they look like mid 70’s models) The original carpet is still on the floors and in the engine compartment. The engine compartment carpet is excellent, the passenger compartment good for its age but not excellent. (I recently had new carpeting sewn up for my 1974 Pantera by a local interior shop for about $300– the Mangusta would use even less carpet as it is quite a bit smaller inside)

This car is an excellent driver and has been well maintained mechanically. For show purposes the interior should be touched up–to the average eye this car appears in remarkable condition for its age. The tool bag and owners manual, as well as the spare and jack are included. Some tools appear to be missing–although I don’t know exactly what should be in the kit. The tires are vintage Goodyear Polyglass GTs with very little usable tread left–one of the rear rims has some curb rash.
